It’s dreamy indie music time. Benjamin James Smith is a bit of a hybrid musician. His music fuses a spacey/electronic sound with lots of synths and effects with the traditional indie rock loadout. Reflecting his home country, Smith’s music has a discernible Brit-rock mood to it that recalls The Who and maybe even the Beatles.
Above is his first album – The Movedrill Projects. It explores a few different styles, though tends to fall within a similar flavor. What’s interesting with Smith’s music is that it feels like the result of classic rock mixed with modern music and technology. The record feels like it brings you to a whole score of locations, from an English pub (“Waiting for the Love”) to a Californian beach (“Sing Inside”) to a small tropical island (“Envy”).
Have a listen to Smith’s Tribute to the Greats! cover EP. It has a more ambient sound to it and is worth a play:
